    The National Curriculum [Click HERE] is just one element of the 2014 school curriculum. We deliver a broad and balanced ‘local’ curriculum which "Promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils, and prepares pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life". DFE 2013

    Curriculum Intent - Our ambitious curriculum embraces individual needs to ensure each child flourishes.  In planning our curriculum, we took into account the experience and culture of our children providing a range of learning opportunities to challenge their thinking and encourage curiosity.  We look at where our children need to be and support them to get there. 

    Curriculum Flexibility - Our Curriculum set out the programme of study for each subject which includes knowledge and skills at each stage ensuring progression in each subject across the year groups.  Subject Leaders and Class teachers adjust the curriculum to reflect the cohort and individuals as needed based on SEND, protected characteristic and maturity of children; emotionally and academically. Subject Leaders have built the curriculum taking into account the demographic of our cohorts, the national curriculum and our location to ensure children learn in context to promote ‘sticky’ knowledge.

    Curriculum Enrichment - Each class offers a range of extra-curricular activities, speakers and events to enrich the learning that they do in class.  This can include visits, guest speakers, events, challenges, special days etc

    Cultural Capital - Children learn about British Values and what it means to be a citizen in the world and Britain. Through Art and Music, History and Geography, children are introduced to an appreciation of human creativity and achievement – we offer our children enrichment opportunities to bring their learning to life, wherever possible.


    The learning the children undertake is distinctive to our school and the values we feel underpin our school culture.  Our school mission statement is the focus of our Thorpe Curriculum:
