    Our Vision

Flourishing with God and our neighbour through

    Faith, Love and Excellence

    Scripture:

Our vision is based on the biblical text of The Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10: 25-37). We use this parable as a means of unpacking what it means to love your neighbour as yourself and also how to live our values.

We summarise our vision with our strap line:

    Love your neighbour as yourself.

    Our school motto is:

    Faith, Love and Excellence

The values of the school help the community to live out the vision. Within our school, as in society, we have many groups and our desire is to enable all to flourish and learn the skills to live as good neighbours with each other. We see this as important both now as the children are developing as part of our school community, and to equip them with the skills for the future to contribute in society wherever they find themselves.

    Our School Rules:

At Thorpe School we are Ready, Kind and Safe.

    Our Church School

At Thorpe, being a Church of England school means offering children more than an excellent academic education. Our Christian vision and values are woven through the life of our school, helping every child to flourish academically, personally and spiritually.

Families of all faiths and none are warmly welcomed. We encourage children to ask big questions, think deeply about the world around them and develop compassion and respect for others. We want children to understand their own beliefs and values while learning to appreciate those of others.

Spiritual development is an important part of being a pupil at Thorpe. Through our work with the Diocese of Guildford, we provide opportunities for children to pause, wonder, reflect and make sense of their experiences. Our Red Kite approach (devised by Andrew Rickett) encourages children to explore spirituality through themselves, others, beauty and the beyond, gradually building their own understanding of what gives life meaning and purpose.

What does being a Church School look like at Thorpe?

Our Christian character can be seen and experienced throughout the school. As children and visitors enter Thorpe, they are welcomed by our mural depicting the Parable of the Good Samaritan, alongside our school vision and values. It provides a visual reminder of the kind of community we want Thorpe to be and how we aspire to treat one another.

In our classrooms, children will find reflection areas where they can pause during the busy school day to think, reflect or pray. These spaces provide opportunities for children to respond to our Collective Worship, share their thoughts and questions, and reflect on their own experiences and the world around them.

Our RE curriculum develops children's understanding of Christianity as a diverse, global faith alongside other religions and non-religious world-views. RE is not about telling children what to believe. Instead, children are encouraged to ask questions, think deeply, listen respectfully and develop their own understanding of faith, belief and the world around them.

Above all, being a pupil at Thorpe means belonging to a welcoming and inclusive Christian community where every child is known, valued and encouraged to flourish.

    Collective Worship

Collective Worship brings our whole school community together every day. We pray, sing, listen to stories, reflect and discuss important questions together. Our worship draws upon resources from the Diocese of Guildford and Picture News, helping children connect our Christian vision and values with their own lives and events in the wider world. Our collective worship is distinctively Christian, inclusive and invitational. Rooted in our school vision,

Our close relationship with St Mary's Church is also an important part of life at Thorpe Cof E Primary. Fr. Stephen Girling joins us each week for Collective Worship and children regularly visit the church as part of their learning and celebrations throughout the Christian year.

We value our children’s views and use them to help shape Collective Worship at Thorpe. In September 2026, children were asked to complete the sentence:

    “I like Collective Worship when…”

Here are some of their thoughts:
